Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

October officially welcomes the spooky season in full force, adding an extra dose of eeriness with the arrival of Friday the 13th this month.

Americans will embrace the supernatural, engaging in this month’s festivities that include decorating their homes with haunting elegance, enjoying movie marathons of thrills, embarking on haunted house adventures, and most importantly, trick-or-treating to cap October.

At NYCasinos.com, we took a break from covering the ongoing efforts to legalize New York online casinos to get into the spirit (no pun intended) of Halloween and Friday the 13th. Spirits Stirring in the Empire State

The spooky season is in full swing in Newark Valley, with the city reporting the highest number of ghost sightings in the state, leading by a significant margin with 38. Out of all these locations, this city would be the heavy favorite to spot your first ghost.

In second place is The Bronx, the only one of NYC’s five boroughs to appear on this list. Will New York City online casinos be a reality soon? The Bronx has reported 27 ghost sightings, tied with Fort Dunn, with its historical landmark Woodlawn Cemetery being recognized as one of the most haunted places in the Big Apple.

Elmira has the fourth most reported paranormal encounters with 24. Elmira College is notoriously known for ghost stories passed down by generations of students and staff since the institution’s founding in 1855. Binghamton (22) and Schenectady (21) trail just behind Elmira. Auburn and Watertown are tied at 20, following closely behind. The Ghost of Auburn High School Auditorium continues to captivate “ghostbusters,” making it a popular destination among enthusiasts.

Hornell, Spencerport and Jamestown are all tied at 17 reported ghost sightings, which complete this list. If you seek an authentic haunting experience, upstate New York will certainly meet your thrill-seeking demand.
